A place where other physicians learn

In 2008, the laser manufacturer Fotona chose Polyclinic Maletić as its education center for laser procedures in aesthetic surgery, within the international Laser & Health Academy. Since then, our courses in Daruvar and Zagreb have been attended by surgeons from the United Kingdom, Italy, Indonesia, Turkey, Israel, Bulgaria, the United States, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Russia, and other countries.

The trainings cover laser lipolysis and liposuction, laser treatment for excessive underarm sweating, laser facial rejuvenation, laser varicose vein surgery, and laser skin tightening of the lower face and neck.

Where the knowledge comes from

How the method taught today came to be

The development of the method we teach today began in 1993, during mr. sc. Duško Maletić's first training in liposuction at the Institute of Cosmetics in Prague. There he noticed a limitation of the approach of the time: after fat tissue is removed from under the skin, excess skin can remain that a compression garment cannot manage satisfactorily.

Fifteen years later, in 2008, an Nd:YAG laser was acquired and laser technology was introduced into lipolysis and skin tightening, which improved the results.

We presented the first results at the IMCAS congress in Paris in 2011, and the fully developed method of laser-assisted double chin liposuction with skin tightening of the lower third of the face and neck at the International Congress of Aesthetic Medicine in Paris in 2012.

We have also presented the clinic's work in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Budapest, Istanbul, Ohrid, and Moscow, and at the IMCAS congress in Bali.

Live feed

A lecture hall with a feed from the operating room

The new Daruvar premises include a lecture hall with a live feed from the operating room. Trainees can follow the procedure in real time and learn on a clinical case.

The broadcast of a procedure and the presence of trainees are possible only with the patient's explicit agreement and a signed consent form. Without consent, no one outside the surgical team is present in the room, and the procedure is not broadcast. Declining consent does not affect the course of the procedure in any way.

Our lecturers

Who teaches

Two of the clinic's physicians hold Expert Clinical Lecturer status at the Fotona academy, while the training in laser varicose vein surgery is led by Mario Bartol.

Mr. sc. Duško Maletić, dr. med., has taught since 2008 and leads seminars for physicians from other countries several times a year. He is the author of the method of laser-assisted double chin liposuction with skin tightening of the lower third of the face and neck.

Ines Maletić teaches within the Laser & Health Academy and leads the non-invasive laser treatments of the face and neck. She is also responsible for the anesthetic part of every procedure, from the preoperative assessment to the follow-up after the procedure.

Mario Bartol performed the first laser varicose vein surgery in Croatia, and physicians from abroad come to him for training in that procedure.

"I believe the greatness of any surgeon who teaches others shows in how far he manages to help his students become even better than himself." — mr. sc. Duško Maletić, dr. med.

Passing knowledge on

How the knowledge is passed on

Teaching other physicians builds on the transfer of knowledge within the clinic itself. Procedures, standards, and refinements developed through clinical work are explained to colleagues, applied in practice, and improved further.

The standards and techniques set by the founder have also been taken up by Mario Bartol. In that way, the method of working is not tied to a single physician but is passed on within the professional team.

Knowledge is passed between generations as well. We have performed hair transplants since 1996, when mr. sc. Duško Maletić, dr. med., trained for it in the United States. Today the field is led by his daughter, dr. sc. Ana Maletić, who in 2025 presented a follicle implantation technique she developed herself at the world congress of hair transplantation.

Why we mention this

What the education center status means in practice

A procedure that is taught to other physicians must be clearly defined, repeatable, and professionally justified before colleagues working in the same field. That requires continuous monitoring of results, refinement of technique, and regular renewal of knowledge.

The choice of method, however, always depends on the findings of the individual patient. During the examination we assess whether a given laser procedure is indicated and what it can achieve — including the possibility that no procedure is needed.

The first step

The first step

If you are considering a laser procedure, during the examination we establish whether laser treatment is indicated in your case and which method is appropriate.

The consultation is free and does not commit you to anything. All laser treatments and surgeries are listed in the Laser Center, and you book an appointment for Zagreb or Daruvar through the contact page.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean that you are an education center?

It means that the laser manufacturer Fotona chose our clinic as a place where other physicians learn to work with laser methods. The trainings take place in Zagreb and Daruvar, within the international Laser & Health Academy, and our physicians also lecture at professional meetings in other countries.

What does that mean for me as a patient?

It means that the procedures we use are ones we have performed for years and teach to other physicians. The status of an education center also entails continuously following the development of laser methods and regularly renewing professional knowledge.

Will trainees be present at my procedure?

Trainees may be present at a procedure only if you explicitly agree and sign a consent form. Without your consent, no one outside the surgical team is present, and the procedure is not broadcast. Declining consent does not affect the course of your procedure in any way.

Can I sign up for a training?

The trainings are intended for physicians. If you are a physician and would like to know the dates or the content of a training, contact us through the Contact page.
