A family polyclinic since 1998 · Zagreb and Daruvar, Croatia

The Maletić Polyclinic Center for Aesthetic Surgery & Medicine

In one place we bring together injectable treatments, minimally invasive procedures and major surgery, in our own operating rooms and with our own anesthesiology team. The choice of method rests on the examination, the clinical findings and the change a given procedure can realistically achieve.

The examination comes before any decision

Patients come to the examination with a range of aesthetic or functional concerns, and they do not need to know in advance which procedure those concerns point to. The examination assesses your anatomy, the quality of the tissue, any functional symptoms and the change you want to achieve. On that basis, the findings are established and we determine whether there is an indication for a treatment or an operation.

A similar visible change can have different causes. The look of a sagging face can be driven by loss of volume, changed skin quality or descended tissue — and the findings determine whether an injectable treatment, a laser procedure or surgery is appropriate. A changed breast shape can be the result of sagging, loss of volume, or both at once. That is why we first establish the cause, and choose the method according to the findings.

How we choose the method

Three levels of procedure — and what each can reach

We divide the procedures we perform into three levels. They differ in the layer of tissue they act on, the length of recovery and how long the result lasts.

Aesthetic medicine, without an incision. Fillers, botulinum toxin and biostimulators act on muscle activity, lost volume or the quality of the skin. The effect develops quickly, recovery is short, and treatments are repeated as needed. They do not remove excess skin and do not change the position of markedly descended tissue, so they cannot achieve the effect of surgery.

Minimally invasive procedures. Aptos threads, laser-assisted double chin liposuction and laser lipolysis are performed through entry points a few millimeters wide, under local anesthesia, with a shorter recovery than classic surgery. They are indicated for moderate changes and for skin that has kept its elasticity.

Surgical procedures. Facelift, blepharoplasty, breast procedures, abdominoplasty and skin tightening remove excess tissue and change its position. The surgical level is indicated for pronounced excess skin, and it involves a longer recovery and operative risks that depend on the type and extent of the procedure. The risks and the expected course of recovery are explained as part of informed consent.

Two generations of physicians

The Polyclinic was founded by a specialist in surgery and urology and a specialist in anesthesiology, and is led today by a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

An exam and assessment of the indication

A procedure is proposed after an examination and an established indication. In some patients, the findings show that a smaller procedure is more appropriate — or that no procedure is needed at this time.

From treatments to major surgery

The range of methods allows the procedure to be chosen according to the clinical findings, the depth of the affected tissue and the degree of change.

Our own operating rooms

Four operating rooms are equipped with continuous air purification systems and with the conditions for both outpatient and more extensive procedures.

Our own anesthesiology team

Ines Maletić, MD, specialist in anesthesiology, reanimatology and intensive care, leads the pre-anesthesia workup, the anesthesia itself and postoperative monitoring.

The surgeons who operate

Procedures are performed by Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, and Mario Bartol, MD. You meet your surgeon at the examination, before any procedure is agreed.

Postoperative recovery

Recovery after more extensive procedures takes place in single rooms with a private bathroom, and in Daruvar apartments are also available for patients traveling from far away.

Methods developed at the Polyclinic

Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, presented laser-assisted double chin liposuction at the IMCAS congress in Paris in 2012. The Polyclinic’s physicians presented their method of breast reduction and lifting by laser lipolysis at the Fotona academy.

Professional books and congresses

The Polyclinic’s physicians have published six professional books on aesthetic surgery and regularly present at international congresses.

Education center since 2008

As part of the Fotona Laser & Health Academy, physicians from other countries come to Zagreb and Daruvar for training.

The people behind it

The surgical and anesthesiology team

Surgical procedures are performed by Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, specialist in surgery since 1984 and urology since 1988, co-founder of the Polyclinic and author of six professional books, and Mario Bartol, MD, specialist in surgery and subspecialist in traumatology, permanent court expert and member of the professional team since 2008.

Anesthesiology is led by Ines Maletić, MD, co-founder of the Polyclinic and specialist in anesthesiology, reanimatology and intensive care. She carries out the pre-anesthesia workup, the anesthesia during the procedure and the monitoring after it.

Ana Maletić, MD, PhD, specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, leads the Polyclinic, the field of aesthetic medicine and the Hair Center.

The examination, the procedure and the follow-ups are led by the same team. The physician who established the indication performs the procedure and follows your recovery, and the same nurses take part in the preparation and postoperative care.

Honesty first

When a procedure is not indicated

An aesthetic procedure is not indicated for every finding. If the main cause of the change is skin quality rather than excess tissue, surgery will not address the problem and a smaller procedure may be more appropriate. A procedure is also postponed when a stable result cannot yet be expected — for example, immediately after major weight loss or childbirth — and the examination is repeated once your condition has stabilized. If the findings are normal and it is a common anatomical variation, that is explained during the examination.

The reasoning behind our recommendation is part of informed consent, just like the explanation of the procedure itself, its limitations and its risks. For more extensive operations, a second opinion can be a useful part of making the decision.

“An examination does not have to end with a recommendation for surgery. If the findings show that a smaller procedure, a postponement or follow-up is more appropriate, the plan is adjusted to that.” — Ana Maletić, MD, PhD

Since 1998

Continuity of work and our own methods

We have practiced aesthetic surgery since 1998, and some of the methods we perform today were developed at the Polyclinic. We introduced Aptos procedures in 2004, among the first in Croatia. We began using laser lipolysis and laser skin tightening in 2008, the year we also became an education center of the Fotona Laser & Health Academy.

Out of that work came the method of laser-assisted double chin liposuction with tightening of the skin of the lower third of the face and neck. It was developed by Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, and presented in 2012 at the IMCAS world congress of aesthetic medicine in Paris. Since then, surgeons from other countries have come to the Polyclinic to learn the procedure and now use the method in their own practice. The method of breast reduction and lifting by laser lipolysis was also devised at the Polyclinic, and its physicians presented it as invited lecturers at the Fotona Laser & Health Academy.

The Polyclinic’s physicians have published six professional books on aesthetic surgery and presented the results of their work at international congresses.

Face & Neck Surgery

See all

Before any facial procedure, we assess whether the main cause of the change is skin quality, loss of volume, descended tissue or excess skin — because the choice of method depends on it.

Intimate Aesthetic Surgery

The examination assesses whether there is a medical or aesthetic indication for a procedure, or whether it is a common anatomical variation. Procedures are performed by Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, specialist in surgery and urology, with appointments organized to protect the patient’s privacy.

Patient reviews

What our patients say

Reviews taken from our Google Business profiles, Zagreb and Daruvar.

★★★★★

“Since high school I watched the double chin I inherited from my father become more and more pronounced — and 15 years later, it is gone. A big thank you to Dr. Maletić and the whole team for granting my wish. The procedure was painless, as was the recovery, and the results were visible within a few days. The entire team was exceptionally kind and cheerful, and the atmosphere very pleasant. I left the polyclinic satisfied, and when the swelling went down two days later and I saw the double chin was gone, my satisfaction knew no bounds. I warmly recommend the Maletić Polyclinic.”

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

How do you determine whether a treatment or surgery is indicated in my case?

The choice is based on the clinical findings and the layer of tissue that needs to be addressed. Injectable and other non-surgical treatments can act on muscle activity, volume or skin quality, while surgical procedures remove excess tissue or change its position. The examination determines which method is appropriate — and what it cannot change.

Is anesthesia included in the price?

Procedures are performed under local anesthesia as standard, which is included in the price. If the patient chooses general anesthesia, the surcharge is €500.00, except for procedures where the price list states that anesthesia is already included. Where the amount differs by type of anesthesia, the corresponding prices are listed separately in the price list. The pre-anesthesia workup, the anesthesia and postoperative monitoring are led by Ines Maletić, specialist in anesthesiology, reanimatology and intensive care. The type of anesthesia is agreed with your surgeon before the procedure.

Do I stay overnight after the procedure?

It depends on the extent of the procedure. Smaller procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, with a same-day return home, while after more extensive operations recovery takes place at the polyclinic, in a single room with a private bathroom and under medical supervision. For patients traveling from far away, apartments are also available in Daruvar.

Are all procedures performed in both cities?

Procedures are performed in Zagreb and Daruvar, with the same team and a comparable level of equipment. Both locations have operating rooms with air purification systems and rooms for postoperative recovery. The location of your procedure is set according to the appointment and availability.

Does coming in for an exam mean I will be offered a procedure?

Not necessarily. The examination establishes the cause of the change and whether there is an indication for a procedure. In some patients, the conclusion is that a smaller procedure is sufficient, that the procedure should be postponed, or that it is not needed at this time. Every conclusion is explained by the findings.

Who performs the procedure?

Procedures are performed by Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, specialist in surgery since 1984 and urology since 1988, and Mario Bartol, MD, specialist in surgery and subspecialist in traumatology. You meet your surgeon at the examination, before any procedure is agreed — and you see the same surgeon at your follow-ups.
