Who leads the Hair Center
The Center is led by Ana Maletić, MD, PhD, a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. She dedicated herself to hair transplantation and hair loss treatment after her specialist training and her first encounter abroad with the FUE method — a procedure that demands great precision in handling every single follicular unit. In March 2026 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the relationship between hair transplantation and biopsychosocial factors of health.
The titles and memberships listed below each have different criteria, including verification of knowledge, experience and professional work. Next to each, we state what it means and the criteria it rests on.

Why trust us
Experience, methods and international professional recognition
The Maletić Polyclinic Hair Center brings together decades of experience in hair transplantation, a range of diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and internationally recognized professional qualifications. The Center is led by Ana Maletić, MD, PhD, holder of the ABHRS Diplomate and FISHRS titles and the only physician from Croatia in full ISHRS membership. It is precisely this combination of international professional titles and memberships that places the Maletić Polyclinic Hair Center among only six clinics in the world with a comparable level of professional certification.
Experience that began before the first transplant
Hair transplant education at the Polyclinic began in 1996, two years before its founding, when Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, gained his first knowledge from American experts in the field of hair transplantation. The first hair transplant was performed in 1998, and procedures have continued without interruption since, with results and the clinic’s own working methods presented at international professional congresses.
All four methods and an individual choice of technique
At the Center we perform four hair transplant methods: FUE, DHI, Sapphire and STRIP — and when indicated, they can be combined in the same procedure. Having several techniques available allows the choice to follow your pattern of hair loss, the condition of the donor area and the long-term plan.
Diagnostics and therapy within one center
The Center offers genetic testing, TrichoLAB analysis, scalp biopsy, non-surgical therapies, regenerative procedures and transplantation. Bringing diagnostics and multiple treatment options together makes it easier to build a plan around your findings and goals.
Premises and the conditions procedures are performed in
The polyclinics in Zagreb and Daruvar together cover more than 1,000 square meters. They have a total of four operating rooms, equipped with ventilation and air-control systems. Controlled operating conditions are one of the factors in performing procedures safely, alongside proper handling and storage of follicular units.
At the Zagreb polyclinic, patients can complete the entire process, from diagnostics and therapy planning to the hair transplant itself, which is why most of these procedures are performed there. The Daruvar polyclinic, alongside the hair center, covers other branches of medicine as well and has a training hall where physicians from different countries follow selected procedures during education programs. In both centers, patients have single rooms with a private bathroom at their disposal.

Honesty first
No method is universal
There is no method that suits every cause and every stage of hair loss. A combination cannot be determined in advance, and a transplant is not the automatic choice for everyone who notices thinning.
Scalps differ from person to person, and so do the cause of hair loss, the stage the loss has reached, the density and quality of the donor area and the number of follicular units available. The treatment plan is made after an examination, a diagnostic assessment and a conversation about your goals.
After the examination, one of three situations most often emerges:
1 · Follicles are present, but weakened. The goal is to preserve the existing hair and support the function of the active follicles with appropriate therapies, alone or in combination.
2 · The follicles are weakened, and the findings point to a possible additional regenerative approach aimed at the local conditions in the tissue around the preserved follicles, alongside targeted therapy when indicated.
3 · In some areas there are no active follicles left, so neither injectable therapy nor a topical preparation can restore the lost hair. In that case, transplantation is the surgical option of moving your own follicles into the area of hair loss, provided the right conditions for it exist.
After the examination, the plan may include a single therapy, a combination of methods, follow-up, or a transplant — depending on the diagnosis, the stage of hair loss and the condition of the donor area. When a procedure is not currently indicated, the plan can focus on preserving the existing hair, treating the underlying cause, or follow-up with reassessment if the condition changes.
“If we judge that a patient does not actually need a certain procedure, we will say so openly.” — Ana Maletić, MD, PhD, interview for Gloria, April 2026
Ten methods
The Hair Center’s methods
The first step: diagnostics
The examination and the diagnostic findings are the basis for choosing the right method.
Genetic Test for Hair Loss
An analysis of an oral mucosa swab assesses genetic variants linked to the likelihood of response to individual therapies. It does not treat hair loss itself, but provides additional data that can help in choosing a therapy.
Trichoscopic Scalp Analysis (TrichoLAB)
It measures hair count, thickness, density and the number of hairs per follicular unit, separately by region. It serves as an initial assessment and, later, as objective follow-up of any changes.
While the follicles are still active: non-surgical therapies
These methods are used on weakened but still active follicles and existing, thinning hair. None of them creates new follicles.
PRP Hair Treatment
Platelet-rich plasma is separated from your own blood and applied to the scalp. The therapeutic preparation is obtained from your own blood, so the treatment includes a blood draw.
Scalp Mesotherapy
An individually selected preparation is applied to the superficial layers of the scalp skin. The composition and protocol are adjusted to the scalp findings and the goal of the therapy.
Polynucleotides for the Scalp
Purified DNA fragments are applied for their possible influence on renewal processes, inflammation and local conditions in the tissue. A pre-prepared, purified preparation that requires no blood draw.
Scalp Filler
A preparation with hyaluronic acid and peptides is applied to the scalp to support the existing follicles. Despite the name, it is not applied to add volume the way a dermal filler is.
Laser Hair Growth Treatment
A medical, non-ablative Er:YAG laser is applied following a protocol of six treatments. The only method in this group without needles and with no downtime.
A regenerative procedure
A regenerative surgical approach, under local anesthesia and in an operating room.
When no active follicles remain: surgical restoration of hair
In areas without active follicles, injectable therapies cannot restore lost hair. Your own follicles are transplanted from the donor area.
Hair Transplant
The FUE, DHI, Sapphire and STRIP methods are available, with an examination and scalp analysis before the procedure plan is made. A surgical procedure that moves your own follicles into areas without active follicles.
Eyebrow Transplant
Hairs are selected by trichoscopic examination according to the thickness, texture and other properties of your existing eyebrows. The angle, direction, arrangement and choice of single-hair follicular units are essential for a natural-looking result.
Beard & Moustache Transplant
The shape of the beard is marked and agreed with the patient before the procedure begins. The density and quality of the donor area determine the possible extent of the procedure.
The prices of all methods are also listed in the price list. The final plan and the estimate of the total cost are determined after the examination, taking into account the diagnosis, the findings, the goal of treatment and the capacity of the donor area.
Honest advice
How to choose a hair center
The market for hair transplants is large today, and the various procedures and promises are often hard for patients to compare. Below are the criteria you can use to evaluate any clinic — including ours.
1 · Ask how many procedures the physician has performed
Years in practice alone do not say enough, because experience in this field is built on the number of procedures performed, the types of cases and continuous work with patients. The number and type of transplants a physician has personally performed are more concrete indicators of experience than the year they started working.
2 · A follicular unit is not a hair
One follicular unit contains, on average, two to three hairs. A number quoted in an offer means completely different things depending on whether it refers to follicular units or to individual hairs.
3 · Ask for a clearly documented count of extracted follicular units
After extraction, the follicular units are arranged on trays with a known number of positions, which makes the total count verifiable. At the same time, their quality and integrity during extraction are assessed, including any damage or transection of the follicular units.
4 · Check who performs the key parts of the procedure
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure, so it is important to know in advance who performs it, who carries the medical responsibility for it and who makes the key decisions during the procedure. The international society ISHRS explicitly advises patients to ask this before the procedure.
5 · Check the conditions the procedure is performed in
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure and requires conditions suited to one: an operating room, equipment for monitoring the patient’s condition, sterile conditions and optical instruments for precise work with follicular units.
6 · Check how the technique is chosen
FUE does not suit every patient. The technique is chosen according to your pattern of hair loss, the quality of the donor area and the long-term plan — not according to how well known it is. A physician experienced in different techniques can adapt the plan to your anatomy, your donor area and the goal of the procedure.
7 · Check whether the results are truly theirs
Look at the before-and-after photographs and ask whether the patients shown are really that physician’s patients. It matters to know who stands behind the results you are being shown.
8 · Check the physician’s memberships and professional qualifications
Attending a congress is not the same as membership. You can verify ISHRS membership in the official Find a Doctor directory, along with other information about a physician’s education, experience and results.
How to compare a price and what the offer includes
A large difference in price can reflect differences in conditions, the team’s experience, the scope of the service and how quality is controlled. Excellent centers exist all over the world, so the question is not which country the procedure is performed in, but who performs it, under what conditions, and what is included in the quoted price.
Price should not be the only criterion when choosing a hair transplant. With a surgical procedure, it matters who performs it, what the physician’s expertise is, how the follicular units are handled, and what the plan is for the future of your hair.
The ISHRS runs initiatives that warn about unlicensed procedures and the importance of choosing a qualified physician.

Patient reviews
What our patients say
Reviews taken from our Google Business profiles, Zagreb and Daruvar.
★★★★★
“A month ago I had an FUE hair transplant with Dr. Ana Maletić. Professionally, my hair was done perfectly. I was lucky that my hair did not shed and started growing right away. Dr. Maletić’s expertise is obvious and makes her the undisputed leader in this field in Croatia. But my real satisfaction and gratitude lie in how the Polyclinic treats its patients. They are very professional, and at the same time approachable and compassionate. Nurses Matea M. and Valerija left a positive mark on my whole experience and made it more pleasant and calming. To anyone in Croatia looking for a hair transplant, I warmly recommend this Polyclinic. You will get top results and excellent care!”
★★★★★
“I had a hair transplant and I am more than satisfied with this extraordinary, exceptionally professional, life-changing procedure! A big thank you to Dr. Ana, Danijela, Romana and everyone else who took part in this wonderful experience. My most sincere thanks! Marko S.”
★★★★★
“All praise to the entire staff of the polyclinic. I have already had my second PRP scalp treatment and I can only praise the whole team. I would especially like to commend the physician for her exceptional expertise, patience and warm approach. From the first examination to the procedure itself I felt safe and well informed. The entire course of the treatment was professional and well organized — I received clear and detailed instructions before, during and after the procedure, which gave me additional confidence. The procedure itself was stress-free, with every step constantly explained, which meant a lot to me. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, and the staff exceptionally kind and helpful. I am very satisfied with the results so far and I look forward to further progress. I definitely recommend it to anyone considering a PRP scalp treatment — you are in safe and expert hands!”
★★★★★
“I had an FUE hair transplant in Zagreb and I often come for PRP therapy to stimulate new hair growth. Congratulations to Dr. Ana Maletić, Dr. Martina Šarec Ivelj and the entire staff of the polyclinic. The results are phenomenal and I warmly recommend them.”
★★★★★
“A few years ago I went to Dr. Ana Maletić for a facial hair correction using the FUE method, which made my beard somewhat denser. The results are fantastic; the work was done with so much dedication and care. From the first meeting at the polyclinic she radiated confidence and knowledge of her work, and a readiness and kindness in answering every question I had. All recommendations for Dr. Ana and her entire professional and kind team.”
★★★★★
“I have been their patient and admirer for years. They have always made my mom and me feel comfortable and welcome. My mom had a neck lift 6 years ago, and today I came in for PRP for hair growth. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you, Ana!”
★★★★★
“I am very satisfied with Dr. Maletić’s results, from the beginning to the end of the hair transplant process. Five months after the procedure my hair looks phenomenal. The results I got, given the number of transplanted grafts, pleasantly surprised me when I compare them with other clinics outside Croatia. As for the price, there is no great difference compared to clinics abroad, while the quality and expertise are at the level of top clinics. A big plus is that I did not have to travel out of the country, which made the whole process much less stressful for me.”
★★★★★
“I have rarely experienced such a professional, coordinated and harmonious team. The atmosphere during the hair transplant was so pleasant that they even treated me to the occasional musical performance. That relaxed atmosphere made the boredom of the procedure easier to bear. Although I do wonder whether some of you might be better off on a stage than in an operating room. Once again, a big thank you — I am already looking forward to the results in a few months!”
★★★★★
“A great experience, team and final result. In short, I had an eyebrow transplant. Everything went exactly as Dr. Ana Maletić explained. The whole team was very kind and professional from start to finish, and I am now at peace because I finally have eyebrows. They look very natural, and the density is just what it should be. All recommendations!”
★★★★★
“A more than positive experience at the Maletić Polyclinic, both in Zagreb and in Daruvar. I had a hair transplant and I am very satisfied with the approach and the procedure. I recommend them to everyone, especially to women who, like me, lost their hair after an illness. Once again, thank you to the kind team, and especially to Dr. Ana Maletić.”

Questions and answers
Frequently asked questions
Which hair therapy is right for me?
The right therapy cannot be determined from a description of the procedure or its price alone. The choice follows from the diagnosis, a clinical examination, a scalp analysis and the goals of treatment, because it is essential to establish whether there are preserved, active follicles that can be expected to respond to therapy. The treatment plan is therefore made after the examination and, when indicated, a trichoscopic analysis.
Is a scalp analysis required before every treatment?
A scalp examination precedes any therapy planning, while the need for a TrichoLAB analysis is determined by the type of procedure and the findings. We examine the scalp trichoscopically and, when needed, supplement the findings with a digital analysis using the TrichoLAB system, which measures hair thickness, density and the number of hairs per follicular unit. The same measurements later serve to track changes, so the result is compared against the initial findings and standardized photographs.
Can the methods be combined?
The methods can be combined when there is an appropriate indication, because one scalp can simultaneously have weakened follicles and areas of permanent loss. One method can be aimed at preserving the existing hair, while another restores areas without active follicles. We assess the suitability of a combination according to the diagnosis, the scalp findings and the goal of treatment.
Do you perform all the methods in both cities?
The methods are available in both Zagreb and Daruvar, with the appropriate equipment and following the same professional protocols. Most hair procedures and treatments are performed at the Zagreb polyclinic on Medveščak, while appointments in Daruvar are arranged according to the type of procedure and availability.
Is it too late in my case?
It depends on whether there are still follicles that can be acted on, and that is established at the examination. In areas without active follicles, injectable therapies cannot restore lost hair, while in suitable candidates a hair transplant can be considered. In earlier stages, while the follicles are still active, several therapeutic approaches can usually be considered.
