Female genital cosmetic surgery in Zagreb and Daruvar
Physical discomfort, changes after childbirth or weight loss, and dissatisfaction with the appearance of the external genitalia each call for a different assessment. An examination with Duško Maletić, MD, MSc, specialist in surgery and urology, establishes the anatomical findings, the cause of the symptoms and the treatment options before any decision about surgery.
Procedures on the female genitalia may be considered for functional symptoms, for changes after childbirth or weight loss, and for aesthetic reasons. The examination assesses the anatomy, the cause of the symptoms and whether surgery can achieve the change you expect.
Is this for me?
When women come for an examination
The most common reasons fall into three groups, although they may overlap in an individual patient.
- Physical symptoms. Friction and chafing in clothing, discomfort when cycling or playing sports, pain during intercourse, difficult hygiene and recurring irritation.
- Changes after childbirth, with age or after weight loss. Reduced volume of the labia majora, a more pronounced mons pubis, excess skin or a changed relationship between individual parts of the external genitalia.
- Aesthetic reasons. Dissatisfaction with size, shape, volume or asymmetry — where, before any decision, the wide range of natural anatomy and the limits of surgery need to be explained.
All three groups are a valid reason to come for an examination. That, however, does not mean surgery is needed.
Honesty first
Why the examination comes before the decision
The range of size, shape, color and volume of the external genitalia is very wide, and a certain degree of asymmetry is common and anatomically normal (Lloyd et al., BJOG 2005). A normal finding does not dismiss dissatisfaction with appearance, but it does mean the procedure is not medically indicated — and that the decision calls for a particularly careful conversation about expectations, risks and natural diversity.
The cause of the symptoms is not always the structure of the external genitalia. Dryness and burning after menopause, skin changes, or a bulge that becomes more pronounced with straining may require gynecological, dermatological or surgical evaluation before an aesthetic procedure is even considered.

Details of each procedure, including how it is performed, the recovery and the available price information, can be found on its own page.
Labiaplasty
Reduction of the labia minora when more pronounced tissue causes friction, discomfort during sports, difficult hygiene or pain from tissue being pulled in during intercourse.
Labia Majora Reduction
Augmentation of the labia majora with your own fat tissue when their volume has decreased with age, after childbirth or after significant weight loss.
Mons Pubis Reduction
Reduction of localized fat tissue in the area above the pubic bone, after assessing whether the cause is volume, excess skin or another condition.
Hymenoplasty
Surgical reconstruction of the remnants of the hymen at the voluntary request of an adult patient, with a clear explanation that the procedure can neither restore nor medically prove virginity, nor guarantee bleeding.
Labiaplasty is the surgical reduction of the labia minora. It is considered when more pronounced tissue causes friction, discomfort during sports, difficult hygiene or pain from tissue being pulled in during intercourse.
Labia majora reduction increases their volume by transferring your own fat tissue, when the volume has decreased with age, after childbirth or after significant weight loss.
Mons pubis reduction is considered when the area above the pubic bone is more pronounced, after the examination establishes whether the cause is localized fat tissue, excess skin or another condition.
Hymenoplasty is the surgical reconstruction of the remnants of the hymen, at the voluntary request of an adult patient.
There is no need to decide on your own, before the examination, which procedure would be appropriate. The examination establishes the cause of the symptoms and assesses whether surgical treatment is indicated at all.
What changes
What each procedure can change
The possible change depends on the initial problem and the type of procedure. Functional symptoms can be reduced if their cause is genuinely related to the tissue being operated on, while the aesthetic and psychological experience of the result remains individual.
- labiaplasty can ease friction, tissue being pulled in, difficult hygiene and pain, if those symptoms are related to the structure of the labia minora
- labia majora reduction can increase volume and reduce the impression of laxity or emptiness, with partial resorption of the fat tissue to be expected
- mons pubis reduction can reduce localized volume and improve the relationship of that area to the lower abdomen
- the examination may end with a recommendation for surgery, another form of treatment, or the conclusion that an operation is not medically indicated
- sexual experience, complete symmetry and a changed relationship with your own body cannot be guaranteed
The outcome is not the same for everyone and depends on the initial findings, the type of procedure, healing and expectations. After reduction of the labia minora, literature reviews describe a longer-lasting reduction of functional symptoms in a proportion of patients (Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2025), while the final appearance is assessed after the swelling subsides and the scar stabilizes. Surgery changes the operated tissue, but it cannot guarantee a change in sexual experience, self-confidence or your relationship with your own body.
