Sunekos in Croatia

Sunekos is an injectable treatment intended to improve the quality of thin, dry, or dehydrated skin, without adding volume or deliberately changing the contours of the face. At the exam we assess whether it matches the condition of your skin and the change you expect.

The room at Polyclinic Maletić where the Sunekos treatment is performed

Sunekos protocols differ according to the preparation, the treated area, and the condition of your skin. They most often include three to four treatments at intervals of seven to fourteen days, but the final plan is determined after an exam. That is when the indication, the appropriate preparation, and the realistic reach of the treatment are assessed.

Is this for me?

What Sunekos is, and who it is intended for

Sunekos is an injectable preparation that contains non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and six amino acids. Unlike a filler, it is not intended to fill in volume or deliberately change contours, but to support the renewal of the structural components of the skin. In aesthetic medicine, preparations of this kind are called biostimulators and are applied to improve skin quality.

Sunekos is applied for thin, dry, or dehydrated skin, fine lines, uneven texture, and other changes in skin quality. It can be applied to the face, the area around the eyes, the forehead, the neck, the décolletage, and the backs of the hands. There is no age limit, so with younger skin it is used for maintenance, and with more mature skin for renewal.

What is the difference between Sunekos 1200 and Sunekos performa

These are two preparations from the same family that differ in the molecular weight of the hyaluronic acid. Sunekos 1200 carries high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, and Sunekos performa low. In practice, they are chosen according to the condition of your skin and the area being treated, and they are often combined within the same protocol. Which preparation suits you is something we assess at the exam.

What Sunekos does not do

Sunekos does not replace lost volume, does not lift markedly lax skin along the jawline, and is not a substitute for botulinum toxin for expression lines. It is not intended to deliberately change the contours of the face. If the main problem is loss of volume, pronounced laxity, or expression lines, another procedure may be more appropriate.

Honest about the limits

How we distinguish skin quality, loss of volume, and laxity

At the exam we distinguish between changes in skin quality, loss of volume, and tissue laxity, because these three findings do not call for the same procedures.

Skin quality. Thin and dry skin, reduced hydration, fine lines, uneven texture, and changes in tone can be indications for applying a biostimulator such as Sunekos.

Lost volume. A hollow in the cheek, a shadow below the cheekbone, or an under-eye hollow caused by a lack of volume are not indications Sunekos can correct. In such cases, a procedure intended to replace volume can be considered, along with an assessment of its reach and limitations.

Laxity. When skin descends along the jawline or on the neck, the issue is a loss of support and possible excess skin, not just the surface quality of the skin. Depending on the degree of laxity, other procedures are considered, including laser and surgical methods.

When another procedure is the better choice

Changes in skin quality and laxity can be present at the same time — thin and lax skin, for example. In that case, the plan is determined by the dominant finding and the order of the procedures. Within such a plan, Sunekos can be applied as a complement to a treatment aimed at support or contours.

How it is performed

What a Sunekos treatment with us looks like

The preparation is injected with a mesotherapy technique, through multiple shallow injections distributed across the treated area. The skin is cleansed beforehand, and the layout of the injections is adapted to the area and the indication. The treatment is short and generally requires no special preparation, apart from an agreement about medications that can increase the tendency to bruise.

Number of treatments
Most often 3 to 4 treatments, at intervals of 7 to 14 days
Anesthesia
Agreed at the exam
Recovery
Small papules and possible bruises in the first days; special recovery is generally not needed

How many treatments are needed, and why the protocols differ

Protocols differ according to the type of preparation, the area of application, and the condition of your skin. Published protocols most often include three to four treatments at intervals of seven to fourteen days. The final number of treatments and the intervals are determined after the exam.

What to expect on the same day

Special recovery is generally not needed. Small papules may remain at the injection points and subside within a few hours. Bruises are also possible, especially after the first treatment and on thinner areas such as the area around the eyes, and they can last a few days. The visibility of these reactions should be taken into account when planning commitments after the treatment.

More rarely — as with other procedures involving the injection of hyaluronic acid — more pronounced swelling, hypersensitivity, or an inflammatory reaction is possible.

What the evidence says about Sunekos

A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2026 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology covered eleven studies on hyaluronic acid enriched with amino acids. Improvement was recorded in the prominence of wrinkles, in dermal thickness, and in overall aesthetic impression. At the same time, the authors rated the quality of that evidence as moderate to very low and explicitly called for larger and better-designed studies.

“The result does not depend on the preparation alone. It is also affected by the condition of your skin, age, lifestyle, and sun protection.”

Sunekos or Profhilo

Sunekos and Profhilo are intended to improve skin quality, and neither is intended to replace volume or correct pronounced laxity. They differ in composition, application technique, and protocol, and the choice is based on the condition of your skin and the expected change.

Neither of these two preparations is a substitute for botulinum toxin for expression lines, nor for a filler when volume needs to be replaced. Both are primarily intended to improve skin quality, not to deliberately change the contours of the face.

Who we are

Who performs the Sunekos treatment, and where

The treatment is performed by Mario Bartol, MD, specialist in surgery and a member of the Polyclinic's professional team since 2008. His work focuses on injectable and laser procedures.

Alongside the physician, the same team of nurses accompanies you throughout the protocol, at both locations. Continuity of the team makes it possible to monitor reactions and assess the result once the protocol is complete.

After the protocol

How the result develops, and how long it lasts

The effect develops over several weeks and is not assessed right after the first treatment. Published studies most often assess the result about three months after the protocol is complete, and later measurements show that the achieved effect diminishes over time, which is why the protocol can be repeated.

Sunekos does not stop the natural aging of the skin, so the achieved effect diminishes over time.

“Since high school I watched the double chin I inherited from my father become more and more pronounced — and 15 years later, the double chin is gone. A big thank you to Dr. Maletić and the whole team for making my wish come true. The procedure was painless, as was the recovery, and the results were visible after just a few days. The whole team was extremely kind and cheerful, and the atmosphere very pleasant. I left the polyclinic satisfied, and when I saw, two days after the swelling went down, that the double chin was gone, my satisfaction knew no bounds. I warmly recommend Polyclinic Maletić.”

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sunekos treatment painful?

The treatment involves a series of shallow injections, during which brief discomfort may be felt. Sensitivity varies from person to person and depends on the area — the area around the eyes is more sensitive than the cheeks. The way discomfort will be eased during the treatment is agreed at the exam.

How many Sunekos treatments are needed?

Published protocols most often list three to four treatments at intervals of seven to fourteen days. The exact number depends on the preparation, the area, and the condition of your skin, so we determine it at the exam, not in advance.

How long do the results of Sunekos last?

The effect is not permanent and diminishes over time, so the protocol can be repeated. Data on how long it lasts differ between sources, which is why the need for and timing of repetition are assessed individually at a follow-up visit.

What is the difference between Sunekos and Profhilo?

Both treatments are intended to improve skin quality, and neither is intended to add volume. They differ in composition, application technique, and the number of treatments: Sunekos is applied through multiple injections and visits, while Profhilo uses the BAP technique, at five points on each side and over two treatments. A detailed comparison is in the table on this page.

Can I go straight back to work after the treatment?

Special recovery is generally not needed, but small papules may remain at the injection points for a few hours, and bruises that last longer are also possible. The visibility of these reactions should be taken into account when planning commitments immediately after the treatment.

Can Sunekos be done in summer?

The treatment is not tied to a particular season. After the application it is important to follow the instructions on protecting your skin from the sun, and the appointment can be adjusted to planned sun exposure and other circumstances.

What is the price of a Sunekos treatment?

Sunekos 1200 costs €360.00, Sunekos performa €290.00, and the package of three treatments €990.00. All prices are published in the price list.
